BEDIO: Free Write Monday

Hello everyone, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a good weekend, and are ready to jump back into more BEDIO content 🎃

Before I started my masters program, I used to do “Poetry Mondays” where I would write a poem or two based on a prompt I found. Since I’m just trying to get back into creative writing, I don’t want to limit myself to poetry, so I am just adapting this concept to fit any form of creative writing, no matter if it’s finished or not. I just need to put something down to get my creative thinking cogs turning again.

As I share these prompts, feel free to try them out yourself and share your work! Whether it’s linking to your post, or just writing it out in a comment, I’d love to see what you come up with (:

Now, for the first Free Write Monday prompt, since it’s fall and Spooky Season is underway, I decided to search for a prompt related to the season or to Halloween. I found a Tumblr page with 50 prompts related to fall, so I’ll be using these prompts for the month 👌 Be sure to check out the page here to follow along, or to try out some of the other prompts!

PROMPT: The smell of nutmeg and cloves around every corner.

Had to make a quick and uh… not super great mood board for inspiration 🤣

Autumn is when the leaves are supposed to fall from the trees, littering the ground with variations of reds, yellows, and oranges. Living in a city where the weather never changes, where it remains sunny until the rain clouds darken the sky, though, means never witnessing this change of the season in person. It means heading to the nearest candle shop, where the scents of fall hit you in an overpowering wave of fake spice scents. The strong spicy smell of cinnamon hits you first, followed by a gentle touch of nutmeg, and then smacked again with a full, earthy clove.

That’s all I have for today, thanks for joining me and I will see you tomorrow with a new post!
