Top Ten Tuesday: Top Non-Bookish Hobbies

Hey everyone, I hope your Tuesday has been going well!

Today is Election Day in the United States (in case you haven’t heard 😅) and it’s kind of making me on edge…so I decided to do this Top Ten Tuesday post kind of last minute, mostly because I thought it was a fun thing to do to keep my mind from dwelling on the election too much (At least, until later tonight when results start coming in). Some of these hobbies I may have brought up in the past and even during Blog Everyday in October, but I’m going to talk about them anyways, since why not?

Anyways, Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl hosts Top Ten Tuesday’s every week, so go check out her blog (where you’ll also find more bloggers who participated in that weeks round of Top Ten Tuesday)!

On that note, here are my top ten non-bookish hobbies!

Writing/Journaling

Based on the URL for this site and my Poetry Prompt Monday’s, I don’t think it should be any surprise that I love to write 😂 I’ve been working on something I want to self-publish, but there’s quite a bit more I want to work on before releasing it into the world… but I’m hoping it will be sometime next year!

Journaling ties in pretty well with my writing hobby, as there are something’s I want to write for myself and not to share with the world 🤷‍♂️ Other times, it might be a thought that’s stuck in my head, and later becomes something I write more in depth about, whether it’s a blog post or a poem. I also like do more creative things with journaling, but my artistic skills are quite… subpar, so it’s not something that I do a lot

Photography

I took a couple photography classes back in high school, and I thought it was a lot of fun! I do post a lot about this in my creative dumping ground posts, so this probably isn’t too much of a surprise.

Origami

I did a whole post about making an origami pumpkin for Blog Everyday in October, but I also like making cranes. Back when I first got into it, I used to make a variety of stuff, but it’s been a few years and my skills are a little rusty… maybe someday I’ll learn to make more creations

Watching True Crime shows/documentaries

I talked about Unsolved Mysteries on here, but I also love a good true crime documentary or any tv show. I just think it’s interesting learning about the psychology of criminals and also hearing about the process that goes on when working on cases.

Watching YouTube

Is this a hobby? I spend a lot of time watching YouTube, so I figure I might as well include it 😂 Recently I’ve been watching a lot of video essays, and one of my favorites to watch is Khadija Mbowe. I found her within the past month, as she commented on another video I’d been watching and mentioned having a channel (clever marketing right there 😂) and I ended up really enjoying her personality and how she discusses the topics covered. Plus, she links her resources in the description, which is always appreciated!

Here’s the first video of hers I watched:

Pin Collecting

I mainly collect Disney Pins, as I think they’re really cute, but in my opinion, pins are a fun way to personalize and decorate your stuff.

Puzzling

This has become quite the popular activity during the pandemic, and I too, have fallen down the rabbit hole of puzzling.

Baking/Making Drinks

Now that the weather seems to be cooling down a bit, I’m hoping to get back into baking soon, as I love it, but specifically baking cookies 👌 I also enjoy making drinks, although since I’ve been home, I’ve been playing around with different recipes for alcoholic drinks more so than anything else. Some of the pictures I included are from when I worked at one of the Starbucks kiosks in the grocery stores… hence the Starbucks logo on the cups😂

I actually did a series during BEDIO last year where I tried out different Pintrest Halloween Drink recipes, which was pretty fun!

Hiking/Walking

This was somewhere in Davis, CA so this isn’t my neighborhood 😂

I like taking walks around the neighborhood, as you never know what you’ll find! I do also enjoy hiking, granted I did it a lot more when I lived in Boulder.

Exploring/Traveling

I wasn’t sure how to title this, but I enjoy taking little day trips and exploring new places, whether it’s locally or travelling farther away. One of my bucket list items is to take a road trip across the United States, and also take a road trip up to Canada… it might be awhile before I do any of these things, but hey, a girl can dream 🤷‍♂️

The picture on the left is from when I went on a safari in South Africa a few years ago, and the picture on the right was from wine tasting in Napa Valley 👌

That’s about all I have for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday! What are some of your favorite non-bookish hobbies?

Also, don’t forget to check out That Artsy Reader Girl’s original post, as well as all the bloggers featured there 😊

Thanks for stopping by, and I will see you in the next post!
