BEDIO: WWW Wednesday (10/05/22)

Hello and happy Wednesday everybody!

It’s Wednesday again, so I’m going to go ahead and talk about what books I’ve read recently, what books I’m currently reading, and what I plan on reading. In other words… It’s WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesdays were originally, hosted by A Daily Rhythm but has been revived by Sam from Taking on a World of Words.

Now let’s get to it!

What I’ve Read

The last time I did a WWW Wednesday post, I was reading If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin… and I’ve finished it (obviously). Overall, the story was interesting, and I love how Baldwin could incorporate complex themes into his narrative without ruining the flow of the story. The ending was a bit ambiguous (at least to me), where it was apparent what was happening, but at the same time, there isn’t “closure” in the sense that you know what happens to all the characters. I want to check out more of Baldwin’s work, so if you have any recommendations, let me know!

The second book I’ve finished since my previous WWW Wednesday is Don’t Read The Comments by Eric Smith. It’s a YA love story told from two perspectives; Divya, an online streamer on the gaming platform “Glitch,” and Aaron, an aspiring video game script/story writer. Although it was a quick read and a cute story, it did revolve around themes of sexism in the world of gaming, as well as racism. If you like YA and are looking for more fun and a lighthearted novel about gamers falling in love, then check out Don’t Read The Comments.

What I’m Currently Reading

Yes, I’m still working through Hero of Ages… it’s on the back burner right now since there are so many books I want to read in October for the spooky season. I’ll probably pick it up again in November, although maybe I’ll read a chapter or two here and there as I’m enjoying the book… but also it’s spooky book time 👻📚💀

The other book I’m reading is Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper. It’s a rom-com about an ex-witch named Emmy who returns to her hometown after almost a decade of exiling herself due to her failed romance with Gareth Blackmoore. After returning, she finds out that Gareth was seeing both her best friend Linden and the gorgeous Talia Avramov simultaneously. Soon, Emmy is pulled into a plan of revenge that becomes more complicated as she develops feelings for Talia. From what I’ve read, it’s been lighthearted; it’s fun reading about a town full of witches whose bloodlines extend far back into history and the long-held traditions they practice.

What I’m Planning On Reading

I have quite a few choices here haha I mentioned last time about wanting to read The Bluest Eye, but I recently picked up a copy of Stephen Graham Jones’ Night Of The Mannequins, and I also want to finally finish The Only Good Indian. On top of that, I still need to read volumes 8 & 9 of The Girl On The Other Side. Basically, we’ll see how I feel once I’m done with Payback’s A Witch and go from there 🤷‍♂️

And that’s all for today’s WWW Wednesday! Have you read any of these books? If not, what are you currently reading? Let me know down below! Otherwise, I will see you tomorrow with another BEDIO post 👻
