Hi everybody, I hope you’re having a good start to your week!
I’ve been in quite the creative mind set recently, so I decided to post something I came up with a few days ago.
I hope you enjoy it!
The purple and orange light from the sunset covered everything that laid underneath it. The squirrel scrounging for food, the young lovers underneath the trees, and the little girl sitting on the wall, staring at the ocean out in front of her. The heat from the day rose from the concrete wall beneath her, warming her legs, while a cool sea breeze tickled her arms, goosebumps rising on her arms. No matter how cold she was, she wouldn’t tear her eyes away from the ocean sunset, the waves twinkling like the stars that will soon appear above them. The last of the sun’s rays disappeared as it lowered into the ocean when the girl’s mom came out of the house behind the girl, walking until she was right beside her daughter.
Her mom leans into the girl’s ear, whispering, “Beautiful, isn’t it?”
The little girl nods absentmindedly.
Her mom shakes her head, smiling. “I guess you’re more interested in the sunset than anything your old mom has to say.”
The girl and her mom sit in a comfortable silence for a while, as the day turns into night, and everyone on the beach below them heads home. The sounds of excited chatter and children’s screams mingle with the crashing waves, but it’s all white noise to the pair on the wall.
After a moment, the mom speaks again, “Isn’t it amazing that we get to watch the end of one day, one moment as the darkness creeps in? It can be scary, but then a new day full of light comes back, reminding us that it always returns, no matter how dark it can get.”
“I guess,” the girl mumbles, only half listening to her mom.
The mom pats the girl’s shoulder and continues as if the girl had never spoken. Her voice is so soft, that the girl almost didn’t hear her above the waves and the people below.
“Who could ignore the beauty in such an experience?”
With that, the mom takes hold of the girl’s hand, helping her off the wall. Then mother and daughter walk back to the house, hand in hand, as the nighttime darkness creeps in behind them.
Thank you for reading, and I will see you guys on Friday!
