Hey everyone, and welcome back!
As it is the start of the new year, I figured I would give you a short update on the Studio Ghibli Marathon I had going on in 2022/2023!
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here are Parts 1, 2, and 3 as well as the original post that started it all. 👌
Basically… I’ve watched all the films, including The Boy and The Heron! Woohoo!

I had decided to make it my end-of-the-year goal for 2023 to finish up the Studio Ghibli Marathon, as I only had 2 movies left to watch (The Tales of the Princess Kaguya and My Neighbors The Yamadas). Both of them were really interesting films, as the animation style of both were completely different compared to the rest of the Studio Ghibli films.

If you’re in the mood for a fairytale/folktale, The Tales of the Princess Kaguya is perfect, as it’s based on the Japanese folktale “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.” My Neighbors The Yamadas is a slice of life film that almost feels like a comic strip, with how the story was told through short vignettes that depicted the Yamadas as a family.

The Boy and The Heron was a very interesting film, and kind of took some bizarre turns that really benefitted the storyline and held my interest. It also had a feel of being Miyazaki’s last film (although I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere that he changed his mind about that), based on some of the characters and their storylines within the film. Overall, it’s definitely a film that you will want to watch multiple times, and if you’re a Studio Ghibli fan who hasn’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it!
Have you seen The Boy and The Heron yet? What is your favorite Studio Ghibli film? Let me know in the comments below!
On that note, thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you in the next post!
