2024 Reading Year in Review (With Some 2025 Goals!)

Hello everyone, and happy belated New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and that you had a good start to 2025 ๐ŸŽ‰

2024 was not my best blogging year, especially after May, when I completely stopped posting on here (๐Ÿ˜…), but one of my goals this year is to post a bit more consistently, even if it means only posting once a month. I always enjoyed blogging, and it’s not something I necessarily want to stop, but sometimes life (and new jobs/work) gets in the way (and saps some of my energy!)

Although I wasn’t posting here, I still read quite a bit last year and even made my reading goal of 65 books! I also read more books from indie authors last year, which is also awesome, and is definitely something I’ll be doing more of this year as well. My partner published his own book in November last year (which you can get online at Barnes & Noble or Amazon), so we’ve been going to different book events and meeting other indie authors who have plenty of great books to share with the world.

So, I figured I might as well share my other reading stats from last year that I tracked through StoryGraph. On that note, let’s go ahead and get into it ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Like I mentioned earlier, my reading goal was 65 books last year, and I managed to read 66 books. I read a lot of short stories, which isn’t a genre I typically read, so I’m happy I was able to do that (even if it was to reach 65 books).

I wanted to spend more time reading last year than on social media, so I made that my reading goal. I hope to continue to spend more time reading this year than on social media, but I only set my goal to 5 books because I have another goal I want to prioritize in 2025: reading through the books I currently own and are on my bookshelves (and in piles and bags around my office and room). It’s gotten a little out of control, so I want to start reading through what I have to figure out what I want to keep or give away and get my book collection more organized.

In 2024, I started the year by reading Amanda Montell’s nonfiction book Cultish (you can see more of my thoughts here) and finished with Ashley Poston’s romantic short story With Any LuckWith Any Luck is part of an ebook short story collection available through Amazon called The Improbable Meet-Cute. The collection features stories that take place on/around Valentine’s Day and features authors such as Christina Lauren and Abby Jimenez. It was the perfect collection for that period after Christmas and before New Year’s, when I still want to read more wintery books, but not necessarily Christmas books, and the stories were quick, fun reads.

Due to the amount of romance short stories I read towards the end of the year, I’m not surprised by this genre breakdown ๐Ÿ˜‚

Overall, here is what I read during 2024:

That’s it for today’s post! What did you read in 2024, and what are your goals for 2025?

Let me know in the comments below!

And on that note, I will see you in the next post ๐Ÿฆฅ
