What I Read To Get Out of A Slump

Hello, and welcome back!

I’ve been trying to get back into posting on here a bit more regularly, so I’m going through some of my old drafts and posting my favorite ones ๐Ÿ‘Œ

ANYWAYS, as you can tell by the long and somewhat catchy title (it is catchy…isn’t it??), we’re going to talk about books I like to read when I’m in a reading slump.

The main reason I get into reading slumps is that my brain is tired and doesn’t want to read anything that is overly complex, whether that’s in the world-building or the emotional aspect of the book. A lot of these books will be YA, romance, and even some literary fiction (although the ones that I might recommend may not be as light-hearted as some of my other recs, just to warn you).

Since I’ve been going in and out of a reading slump lately, and there are some books that have definitely helped renew my reading energy, while others… not so much. Even then, I’m going to include books I’ve read before that have gotten me out of previous slumps, as you can never have too many recommendations! So here we go:

List of Books that Get Me Out of a Reading Slump:

Adult Sci-Fi (there aren’t too many in this category since Sci-Fi doesn’t typically get me out of a slump):

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

YA Fantasy:

The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (I realized this actually should be Sci-Fi, but it was the only YA Sci-Fi book I had on my list, so I just combined it with Fantasy… because I could :P)

YA Romance (At least, I’m pretty sure most of these are supposed to be romance? Could also just be a regular coming-of-age novel… I’m bad with figuring out book genres for some reason ๐Ÿ˜…):

I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston

Simon Vs. The Homosapien’s Agenda by Becky Albertalli

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Other YA (I didn’t know what exactly to fit these books into genre-wise, so they’re here):

Once Upon a Quinceaรฑera by Monica Gomez-Hira

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo

Adult Romance:

Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner

Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake

Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail by Ashley Herring Blake

Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto

Literary Fiction:

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

Another honorable mention I wanted to add that I just finished reading recently is Lost in The Never Woods by Aiden Thomas. I don’t know why, but every time I read any of his books, I get caught up in the story and out of my slump ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ If you love fairytale retellings and Peter Pan combined with some thriller aspects, this is the YA Novel for you.

Cover for Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas.

Another honorable mention I forgot to include on the initial list is Casey McQuiston’s One Last Stop.

And that’s all for today’s post! What are some of your favorite books to read when you’re in a reading slump? Let me know in the comments below!

Otherwise, I will see you in the next post!
