Top Ten Tuesday: Comfort Reads

The theme for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday (in case you couldn’t tell from the title) revolves around comfort reads. For my post here, I’ll talk about five traits that make up my comfort reads, along with five of my comfort reads.

My Five Qualities of a Comfort Read

• Nothing Super Dark
• Not Overly Complicated
• Fun Premise
• Lovable Characters
• Reminds me of the fall (Give me all the fall/Halloween vibes PLEASE)

Five of My Comfort Reads

I just chose the first five books/series that came to my head…For some reason, they’re mostly series 🤔

The Sweep Series by Cate Tiernan

This has been a go-to comfort read for me ever since I first read it back in middle school… Honestly, I don’t even remember the amount of times I’ve re-read this series.

The Sweep series follows our protagonist, Morgan, as she learns secrets about herself and her family, and discovers hidden powers within herself. I went through a phase of reading a lot of books that centered around Wicca, and I’m pretty sure this is the series that kick-started that obsession.

Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo

If you’ve visited my blog before, then this should really come as no surprise to you 😂

I read Six of Crows back in 2016, when I was just getting back into reading after I had graduated from college. I worked at Target during this time, and used my discount to buy both Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, as I heard such good things about them. Bardugo’s writing not only helped me get out of my reading slump, but it brought back my love of fantasy. I couldn’t help but fall in love with these characters as they worked together to perform what was deemed as an impossible heist.

The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden

I had heard a lot of good things about the first book in this series, The Bear and The Nightingale. Stories inspired by Russian folklore always interested me for some reason, and it ultimately is what inspired me to finally pick it up. Arden has a beautiful writing style that brought a fairytale vibe to the overall story, and really sucked me in.

The Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts

The Bride Quartet is probably one of my only comfort reads on here that doesn’t have any fantastical elements to the story; it is a straight up romance. I find this to be a comfort read for me, because it revolves around four friends who started a wedding business, as they each cover one part of the wedding celebration (photography, the wedding cake, the planning etc.). I’ve always loved watching shows about weddings and looking at wedding dresses, so this was a fun and lighthearted series that I really enjoyed reading.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

This is a new addition to my comfort reads list, as I just read it this spring! For me, this became a new comfort read because I love the fall (and Halloween!), and since Dia de Los Muertos takes place in the fall, it gave me that cozy fall read vibe… despite all the fact that the book does focus a lot on death and the afterlife 🤷‍♂️

On a completely random note, I think this might be the only book on my comfort reads list that isn’t a series😂
